Thomas Appell

Can You Sing a HIGH C Without Straining? If you didn't answer yes to this question, don't be dismayed. The people that can are seldom born with the talent to sing high notes. They've simply put a lot of time and effort into training their voice. They've taken voice lessons.

What's Their Secret? The ability to control two of the most important muscles used when singing, the vocal folds.

How Can I Learn? By taking voice lessons and practicing exercises designed to give you control over the muscles used when singing. Example: Try moving the middle toe on your right foot without moving the others. Can't do it? That's becuase you don't know how to control the muscle that moves your toe, even though you know exactly where the muscle is and what you would like it to do. You were born with the ability to move the muscle, but because you haven't practiced moving it in the right way it won't respond. Your voice works in the same way. All of the notes you sing are created by two small muscles in your throat called the vocal folds. You might want to sing a HIGH C without straining, but becuase you're vocal folds aren't trained you can't do it. When you try and sing high notes your vocal folds strain and pull and all you get for your effort is a sore throat. However there is a way to learn to sing high notes without straining, yet at the same time producing a big sound more powerful than anything you've ever dreamed of.

How Do I Know This Works? Easy, just read or watch any of the testimonials on this page (below the tabs) and the testimonials you'll find by clicking on the Testimonials tab. Also, listening to some of the singers trained using this technique by clicking on the Audio Examples tab is a great way to see the results for yourself. Or listen to a male singer trained here (Steve Mercado) singing a soprano HIGH C in full voice (not falsetto). The song playing when you opened this page was recorded by Sara Haze, a singer trained at Vocal Dynamics.

Been working with singers from the band SAOSIN . Vocal technique training with lead singer Cove Reber, bassist Chris Sorenson, and guitarists Beau Burchell and Justin Shekoski plus live performance coaching with Cove and Chris for their acoustic set. Helped Cove prepare for recording their new album, "In Search of Solid Ground," featuring the song,"Changing." Check out this album at Best Buy or itunes. Definitely worth adding to your collection. Their song "You're Not Alone" (one of my favorites) has more than 7,000,000 plays on their myspace page.

"I saw your book, I ordered it, and I liked what I saw. I looked you up. I sent you an email and we arranged the lessons. I knew it was going to be good but this has blown away any expectations I had. This has just been so amazing. The first day I hit a tenor high C in full voice. Today (second day) I hit a soprano high C in falsetto which is really, really cool. If you're out there and you're thinking about whether you should come or not - you should come. You should come see Thomas."

"I got an email from amazon.com recommending books I might be interested in and Thomas' book showed up. I ordered it and the very next day I was on the phone to Thomas, talking to him and I was just so blown away that I said, 'I've got to go down and see this guy.' There was no question about it. Within a few days I was on a plane. I got up at four in the morning, flew to California, walked off the plane exhausted (as you can imagine) and walked into the studio and we had our first lesson. In that first lesson he had me singing a C above soprano high C which was crazy and beyond my wildest dreams. It's been an amazing experience. Thomas is just such a wealth of knowledge and his understanding of the voice as an instrument is just incredible. It's surpassed my expectations of why I came and what I needed to do. Thomas has taught me a great deal in a very short time period. He brings it all together so you get the range, the quality of sound, the ease of production - everything you really need to know to sing well."

"When we started out I couldn't even sing in full voice at all. I didn't know why I didn't sound like other pop singers. My voice just always had that classical, musical theatre kind of sound. I had studied with some famous people (vocal coaches) but nobody really helped me till I came to you. It was within one or two lessons that I started to get it. It happened fast, it happened easily, there was no straining. It's just a really solid technique. You make me sound good."
Amanda Spencer Contemporary Music Worship Leader and Choir Director at the Crystal Cathedral
"In 20 minutes I got it. Come see Thomas. He's a miracle worker. He will fix you. He can explain it and he can do it and it's easy."

"You just made it so easy. You made it make perfect sense for her. Within just a few months it was incredible - the change I could hear in her voice. I love the combination of vocal technique and your studio. Your studio is phenomenal. I brag about your studio all the time because when you go there it's state-of-the-art equipment so when you're recording their voice they get to hear right away what they would sound like if they were on the radio. I think that's really exciting and it helps motivate Katherine to want to do really well."

"People are blown away by his voice. He can hit the high notes like it's no big deal. In front of 21,000 people at the Staples Center he just laid it out... when he came walking back he got a standing ovation. People that have seen the video are saying like, "I can't belive that voice is coming out of that body." He's got real control. It's been pretty amazing."

"I took the book Can You Sing a HIGH C Without Straining? and the CD you gave me from the first introductory lesson, I took it home... and I practiced and I found it (singing high notes using the HIGH C technique) and it feels amazing. It's very solid. Very comfortable. I feel no strain whatsoever."

"We found your website, the testimonials and the songs to be fantastic. Training with you is my pleasure. I never ever drempt that I would cross the seven seas to the U.S. for my vocal training (Pawni flew 8,400 miles from India to train with Thomas for a month). I have increased my range by 8-10 notes of full voice. I really like my sound. My voice used to shake and it used to shrill and it never used to sound that good on high notes. Now after the vocal technique lessons I sound really nice and really rich and I can sing higher than I ever imagined with no straining. You are the best."

Pawni was in the top 5 of Little Champ, India's version of American idol and was voted by the judges to be the most talented 16 year old singer in all of India.
