If you want to develop your voice to it's maximun potential nothing works better than private voice lessons. If you're new to singing or if you've been singing for a long time but still have weak areas in your vocal technique, don't be intimidated by all of the great singers at this site. Most of them were beginners when I started training them. If they can improve dramatically, so can you.... and don't be worried about your age. I've obtained great results with kids as young as six and adults as old as 72! This is how the training works.

The first (Intro) voice lesson will be approximately 45 minutes long including 10 to 15 minutes of explanation about how your voice works and one half hour of voice training. You'll learn a lot of important fundamentals and I will get to know exactly what you can and can't do with your voice. After the first lesson, I recommend twelve vocal technique fundamental lessons before we start working on songs. These lessons can be either one hour long (Standard) or one and a half hours long (Peak Performance Lessons). The hour and a half lessons cover the same lesson plan in much greater detail and will develop your voice and understanding of how it works faster and with better results. Children under the age of eight can have half-hour lessons if they can't handle a one hour session. I recommend completing the Fundamental Series Lessons before we start working on songs so you will be skilled enough to follow my direction when working on a tune. After the Fundamental Series Lessons we begin the Advanced Vocal Technique Series Lessons.

I've spent years developing the 12 Fundamental Series Lessons, and the results are amazing. You'll learn how to sing high notes comfortably and safely. You'l learn how to sing with vibrato. We'll work on improving your pitch (singing in tune), tone and breath control. After you've completed the 12 Fundamental Series Lessons we'll apply what you've learned to the songs you bring to me to work on. We can do songs in any style you like. Famous singers that have sold millions of records have all gone through the 12 Lesson Fundamental Series. Follow their example. Lay a firm foundation of vocal technique, then start building on it with stylization and advanced training.

After you've completed the12 Fundamental Series Lessons, I have 90 hours of Advanced Training Lessons all ready for you - carefully organized and designed to give you everything you'll ever need as a singer.

You can take the 12 Fundamental Series Lessons and Advanced Training Lessons at a slow or faster pace. It really depends on how quickly you need to advance. A general rule of thumb is, the more often you see me, the faster you will advance. You can take one lesson per week, two hours per week, an hour every other week... or as many do who want fast results, two to three hours per day for 5-6 days in a row.

This works great if you live too far away to commute, or would like to improve your vocal skills at a faster pace, I've had excellent... no, make that fabulous results with two to three lesson-per-day intensive training sessions. The standard format is to take two lessons per day, with an hour break between sessions, for as many days as you schedule. The benefit of 100% supervised practice allows singers who train this way to advance rapidly with solid advancement in their vocal technique in a very short amount of time. Singers routinely fly in from around the world to train with me in this way for 1-4 weeks at a time. They've come from Germany, France, England, The Netherlands, Japan, Austria, Central America, South America, Australia, New York, Maryland, Alaska, New York, Michigan, Idaho, Tennessee...to name a few.

Singers who take more lessons per week will have a better understanding of how their voice works - primarily because they're so emersed in the training. You just have to decide how quickly you would like to advance. If you take two Fundamental Series lessons weekly, you can get to songs in about six weeks.

Singers who take private lessons with me have been amazingly successful. The average range increase is 7 notes for male and female singers. Many singers get 12-15 note range increases. After your vocal technique is in good shape, I'll show you how to apply what you've learned to the songs you bring to me to work with, working extensively with styling and learning all of the vocal tricks that make for a heartfelt vocal performance..

If you live near Trabuco Canyon, California, setting up a lesson can be fairly simple. Just call the main studio number (949) 459-1828 and set up an appointment. I train singers six days per week (Monday through Saturday) from approximately 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. On Saturdays I conclude all sessions at dusk. Special arrangements can be made for later weekday sessions and Sunday evenings.

If you want to put together a demo, I can help. I can write, arrange, record, and produce all of your music in my private recording studio. If you'd like to hear examples of music I've written and produced, they're here at this website. From the main menu, click on "Audio Examples of Singers Trained by Thomas Appell." Most of the songs here came from simple poems brought in by my students which I set to music.

If I'm writing music for you, I'll ask you to bring in the lyrics you've written. While you're sitting next to me I'll set them to music using a piano or guitar as the basic instrument. After we have a basic concept worked out, I'll teach you how to sing the song and finally record it at my studio. I have a DW quilted maple drum set permanently set up and mic'd at the studio and I hire top notch studio drummers for the songs I produce. I usually play all of the keys and guitars myself. We can add real violins or anything else you want to make your song sound it's best.

I've been doing a lot of work lately writing and producing pop and pop/rock songs in the style of Michelle Branch, Green Day, Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, classic rock and many other genres popular in today's music market. Keep in mind I can produce music for you in whatever style you want to do. The styles I just mentioned seem to be more popular but my goal as your vocal coach and producer is to help you find the perfect style that suits YOU. I've written and produced country, jazz and even classical opera songs for my clients.

Many of the singers I produce and write music for allow their songs to be available to other singers I'm producing. If another artist (like you!) makes someone elses song famous, everybody wins. The writer makes money, you make money if you're the one singing it, and the recording cost is a lot less since you didn't have to pay for recording the music... just the vocals and mixing.

I have lots of original music you can use for FREE if you work with me. This is a tremendous opportunity for any singer and it will save you a lot of money. I would recommend checking out the sample of songs to see for yourself the extremely high quality level of the songs available.
